From a Yale dorm room to the world's biggest car franchise: the full story of Jordana Brewster.
Early life
Jordana Brewster was born on April 26, 1980, in Panama City, Panama. Her mother, Maria João Sousa Leão, is a former Brazilian model who appeared on the 1978 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover; her father, Alden Brewster, is an American investment banker. Her paternal grandfather was Kingman Brewster Jr., president of Yale University from 1963 to 1977 and later U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom — and the family line traces back to Mayflower passengers William Brewster and Edward Doty.
Brewster spent her earliest years in London and then Rio de Janeiro before her family settled in Manhattan when she was ten. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart and the Professional Children's School, balancing schoolwork with an acting career that started remarkably early.
Career beginnings
At fifteen, Brewster made her screen debut with a one-episode role on All My Children (1995), then landed the recurring part of Nikki Munson on As the World Turns, which she played for six years and more than a hundred episodes, earning a Soap Opera Digest Award nomination as Outstanding Teen Performer in 1997. Her film debut came in Robert Rodriguez's sci-fi horror hit The Faculty (1998), as school newspaper editor Delilah Profitt.
The Fast and the Furious
In 2001, Brewster was cast as Mia Toretto opposite Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in The Fast and the Furious. The film was a sleeper smash, and Mia — Dom Toretto's sister and Brian O'Conner's love interest, later wife — became the emotional anchor of a franchise that has since grossed billions worldwide. Brewster reprised the role in Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), F9 (2021), and Fast X (2023), and is confirmed to return in the finale, Fast Forever (2028).
Remarkably, she did all of this while completing a B.A. in English literature at Yale University, graduating in 2003 — two years after the first Fast film opened.
Television and independent film
Between Fast films, Brewster built a substantial television career: the recurring role of Jill Roberts on Chuck (2008–09), series regular Elena Ramos across all three seasons of TNT's Dallas revival (2012–14), Denise Brown in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (2016), and Dr. Maureen Cahill across three seasons of FOX's Lethal Weapon (2016–18). Her film work outside the franchise ranges from the cult favorite D.E.B.S. (2004) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) to indies like The Integrity of Joseph Chambers (2022) and the Netflix series Neon (2023).
Recent work
Brewster opened 2025 playing Detective Jeanine Shaw in the theatrical hit Heart Eyes, guested on CBS's Elsbeth, and shot the indie comedy-drama The Pirate King with Rob Riggle. In March 2026 she was cast as SFPD inspector Kat Claiborne in Prime Video's crime thriller Bishop, opposite Joel Kinnaman and John Malkovich.
Personal life
Brewster was married to producer Andrew Form from 2007 to 2021; they have two sons, Julian (born 2013) and Rowan (born 2016), both born via surrogate. On September 3, 2022, she married Mason Morfit, CEO of the investment firm ValueAct Capital. She holds dual Panamanian and American citizenship and speaks often about her Brazilian heritage.
