After a quarter century and eleven films, the Fast & Furious saga is heading for the finish line — and Mia Toretto is expected to be there for it. Here is what's confirmed, what's reported, and where Jordana Brewster fits into the send-off.
The basics
From "Fast X: Part 2" to "Fast Forever"
The film was announced years ago as Fast X: Part 2, the second half of a planned two-part conclusion. Since then it has been retitled Fast Forever and moved on the calendar, with Universal setting a March 17, 2028 theatrical date. Anyone still seeing the old 2025 date attached to the "Part 2" title is looking at outdated information — the current, studio-listed release is the 2028 one. Louis Leterrier, who steered F9 and Fast X, is back in the director's chair.
Is Jordana Brewster in Fast Forever?
She is widely expected to return as Mia Toretto, and she has spoken about the film repeatedly and specifically in interviews — not the posture of an actor who has been written out. What is worth stating plainly is that, as of mid-2026, her return had been reported through the trades and her own comments rather than sealed by a formal studio cast announcement. Read her involvement as strongly indicated and openly discussed, not yet officially confirmed.
What Brewster wants for Mia's send-off
If there is one thing Brewster has made clear, it's that she wants the finale to give Mia something the later films often didn't: agency. "Mia gradually became more and more passive," she has said. "I want her to drive her story and not react to everything else around her." She has described years of "fighting the most" to get Mia "out of the babysitting seat," and has said she'd like the send-off to "harken back to the first one" — the grounded, character-driven tone of 2001 before the saga went global and gravity-defying. On the prospect of a crowded returning cast, including Dwayne Johnson, she has been generous: "the more the merrier."
A finale built around Paul Walker's legacy
The emotional center of any Fast conclusion is Brian O'Conner, and by extension the memory of Paul Walker, who died during the production of Furious 7 in 2013. Brewster — whose character is Brian's wife — has consistently framed the ending as a chance to honor Walker and to close the family's story with care. Around the franchise's 25th anniversary, marked at the Cannes Film Festival in 2026, she reflected on that legacy and on what a proper goodbye should feel like.
What's still unknown
Plenty. As of mid-2026 the studio had not released a finished cast list, a plot synopsis, a trailer, or a title treatment beyond the name and date, and trade reports noted that deals for some returning players were still being finalized even as Vin Diesel signaled from what he called the set.
